On July 8, 2022, a Springfield, Missouri, man filed a class action lawsuit against Bass Pro Shop for socks. You heard that right...socks.
In the lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri, the man alleges that he purchased a pair of "Redhead Lifetime Guarantee All-Purpose Wool Socks" sold by Bass Pro. Between 2014 and 2021, the plaintiff purchased approximately twelve pairs of new socks from Bass Pro, and alleges that the socks' supposed "Lifetime Guarantee" was part of the reason why he purchased the pairs in the first place. As he understood it, and based on Bass Pro's marketing, whenever his socks wore out, Bass Pro would replace them. On some occasions, Bass Pro employees actually provided the plaintiff with replacement socks at no charge.
In January 2021, the man attempted to return four pairs of socks in accordance with their alleged "Lifetime Warranty." The store clerk informed him that he could not return the socks since they were not protected by any warranty. Note that each pair of socks that the plaintiff bought cost about $12.
The lawsuit alleges that Bass Pro purposefully markets its products in a false or misleading way by including the words "Lifetime Guarantee," implying that there is some sort of lifetime warranty for the socks.
As of publishing, the class action remains uncertified as it is a relatively new case. We will provide updates periodically.
But because this is a class action, you may be entitled to relief. So, if you or a loved one purchased Bass Pro's "Redhead Lifetime Guarantee All-Purpose Wool Socks" and they refused to honor that implied lifetime warranty, you may be entitled to compensation.
